the ABSOLUTE OBEDIENCE MEME 1. Post with your character. 2. That character is compelled to follow the orders of anyone who replies. 3. Any orders. 4. Any orders. [ Not stinging and sharp, as he intends it to be, but terribly wounded. He had never known the depth of his hurt. ]

What do you have to forgive?

[Sif doesn't plead. But this is as close to it as she's capable of. She truly wants to know. Because from where Sif's sitting, one day they were friends and the next day he was trying to kill them. Something must have happened between points A and B.]

[sorcerous]

A life of lies. Of wrongs.

[ His eyes close. Head bows. ]

Sif, do not press. Please, do not.

[brosif]

Or what? [She counts off on her fingers.] You'll try to kill me. You'll die. You'll turn on us all. You'll break your mother's heart. You'll make us mourn you.

Look where we are. What repercussions could possibly be left?

[sorcerous]

Oh, Sif --

[ Tell me the truth.

And his tears are threatening to spill. ]

I fear there may be a piece of me not yet broken.

[brosif]

[And Sif's been unseated. Because in well over a thousand years, she's never seen Loki like this. Loki Odinson, Loki Silvertounge, Loki Liesmith. Stupid Loki. She looks up, and makes a guttural noise in her throat, trying to remain in control. Her eyes are red and she hates it. Then, very quietly:]

I honestly don't know if I want to protect that piece, or grind it up into dust.

[sorcerous]

My heart is in your hands.

[ Soft and bitter. He is helpless, and he knows it. This is the keenest torture anyone could have imagined -- putting him entirely at the mercy of another. ]

[brosif]

My hands aren't made for such things.

[She kills quickly or she doesn't make the kill. There's no drawing things out. And yet.]

Ask me something. I don't care what.

[sorcerous]

If you had a choice, would I ever have been a companion of yours?

[ A brother in arms. A fellow warrior. ]

[brosif]

You were. There were six of us. And we fought well for it.

[sorcerous]

If you had a choice.

If I was not a Prince, not a son of Odin, not a brother of Thor. What then?

[Perhaps it runs in the family. Looking at how things might have been, instead of what they are now. It's not something Sif has ever been adept at, and that frustration shows itself.]

How do I answer that? I wouldn't know you if you weren't Loki Odinson. I wouldn't have grown up with you, and gods know you make a terrible first impression.

I wouldn't...have lost my best armor in that fire pit because of you. I'd still have golden hair. I'd suspect I'd have more scars. Or less. Hogun and I would be in the minority of reasonable thinkers, but that would scarcely matter, because Thor would be egged on so much less. You think you’re subtle about that, but you’re not.

I wouldn't know you. I don't know how to chose some theoretical version of who you are.

[sorcerous]

It is no theory, no distant possibility.

[ His skin crawls, fading blue from fingertips to shoulders to throat. His eyes, last, glowing dim red. ]

You have before you the rightful prince of Jotunnheimr. Will you spare him, or strike him down?

[brosif]

[Sif has seen many things in her lifetime. Angels and demons, forgotten worlds, and nearly Valhalla itself. But now, and perhaps for the first time, she is truly shocked. Her eyes go wide and her legs feel heavy.

In her mind, she hears childhood songs about the fallen frost giants. The ones they used to sing on hunting trips.]

I don't...is this one of your tricks?

[sorcerous]

If only.

But it is not mine. It is Odin's. It seems he brought more than trinkets home from the Frost Giants.

[ As tears spill, as his head bows. This is pain, true pain, no trick. ]

[brosif]

[She asked for an explanation, and understands now why he begged otherwise. A wealth of thoughts come in, none of which seem like her own but of kinder and more cruel versions of herself. This explains everything, this explains nothing. Odin damned you, Odin saved you. Stay. Get out.

She shakes her head, willing it away.]

You wanted them all to burn.

[sorcerous]

I wanted to burn.

[ Burn the monster free, keep the shining God. Become better than he was by stamping out every trace of the scourge that made him other. ]

[brosif]

And what do you want now?

[sorcerous]

To burn the Nine Worlds. To destroy.

[brosif]

And once you've burned everything away? What do you want after that?

[sorcerous]

I don't know.

[brosif]

When I'm dead. When I'm dead, and your mother is dead, and Odin is dead. When Thor is dead.

When everything and everyone you've ever known is ash and you are finally alone. What will you do then?

[sorcerous]

It does not matter, for it will never come to pass.

[brosif]

If you know that -- are you are too smart not to know that -- then what is it that you're trying to do?

[sorcerous]

There is nothing left.

I have sought Odin's love -- for nothing. I struck Thor down, for nothing.

What else is there, but to become the monster I should have been?
