[Perhaps it runs in the family. Looking at how things might have been, instead of what they are now. It's not something Sif has ever been adept at, and that frustration shows itself.]

How do I answer that? I wouldn't know you if you weren't Loki Odinson. I wouldn't have grown up with you, and gods know you make a terrible first impression.

I wouldn't...have lost my best armor in that fire pit because of you. I'd still have golden hair. I'd suspect I'd have more scars. Or less. Hogun and I would be in the minority of reasonable thinkers, but that would scarcely matter, because Thor would be egged on so much less. You think you’re subtle about that, but you’re not.

I wouldn't know you. I don't know how to chose some theoretical version of who you are.

[Sif has seen many things in her lifetime. Angels and demons, forgotten worlds, and nearly Valhalla itself. But now, and perhaps for the first time, she is truly shocked. Her eyes go wide and her legs feel heavy.

In her mind, she hears childhood songs about the fallen frost giants. The ones they used to sing on hunting trips.]

But it is not mine. It is Odin's. It seems he brought more than trinkets home from the Frost Giants.

[ As tears spill, as his head bows. This is pain, true pain, no trick. ]

[She asked for an explanation, and understands now why he begged otherwise. A wealth of thoughts come in, none of which seem like her own but of kinder and more cruel versions of herself. This explains everything, this explains nothing. Odin damned you, Odin saved you. Stay. Get out.

She shakes her head, willing it away.]

You wanted them all to burn.

I wanted to burn.

[ Burn the monster free, keep the shining God. Become better than he was by stamping out every trace of the scourge that made him other. ]

[sorcerous]

To burn the Nine Worlds. To destroy.

[brosif]

And once you've burned everything away? What do you want after that?

[sorcerous]

When I'm dead. When I'm dead, and your mother is dead, and Odin is dead. When Thor is dead.

When everything and everyone you've ever known is ash and you are finally alone. What will you do then?

It does not matter, for it will never come to pass.

If you know that -- are you are too smart not to know that -- then what is it that you're trying to do?

Loki. That...is the most self indulgent pile of dwarf dung that I have ever heard. There's an entire universe full of options other than self-destruction. You don't get to hurt people just because you're in the midst of an identity crisis.

[sorcerous]

I may hurt them because I wish it.

[brosif]

And you wish it because you are hurt. It's a pointless cycle, and it's entirely within your power to end it.

[sorcerous]

[brosif]

There is more glory in ending a war than in starting one.
