[He hugs Magneto a little tighter with the arm still wrapped around him.]

We've figured out how it works a little better.

[Said in an almost soothing, this-is-the-good-news-isn't-it-helpful sort of tone, hopeful and brittle.]

[It's something in the tone, something he can't place, but it sets his nerves off and he tenses.]

Yes?

[He sighs, nuzzles Magneto lightly, then leans away enough to look each other in the eyes comfortably, though they're still touching. Then he says, in a quiet, resigned way,]

It's...the more resistance you have to an order, the more it...uses up the curse. Telling you to do things you don't mind has barely any effect.

[magnetic_magpie]

[As Daniel talks, he gets more and more tense.]

...Oh

Yeah.

[Sigh hug whatdotheydo.]

So. I'm going to be really horrible to you now.

Fuck, I'm sorry about this.

[But he can't leave you like this. He won't. Whatever it costs him.]

[It's stubborn, but almost fearful. Because even if he didn't think this reason, it's what he was afraid of.]

[Daniel strokes his hair gently. He's probably going to get shoved away soon, but god they both need it. Saying yes, apologizing again, all of it - there's nothing he can say that won't make it worse, that won't just be dragging this out. He drags in a breath.]

From now until this ends, you have to forgive yourself. For everything.

Stop telling me how to feel!

[Shoved away isn't the term for how violently he pushes Daniel away. And while it's all raw anger, it's hiding how much fear there is in this, in what's going on, in what's happening as his brain screams nonononono and yet lets go.]

[He manages his own landing enough to suffer no more than bruises, though he doesn't bother trying to get up again. Dully, he goes on,]

Don't do anything to stop me giving orders. Don't do anything to me you'd regret after the curse is over.

[Other than that, yes, you can hurt him.]

[He growls, getting up and pacing, feeling trapped already, glaring. The promise with doing nothing he'd regret, was there was a lot he wouldn't regret if he felt trapped. If he no longer felt safe, he had no reason to regret.]

[eternaliyah]

[Daniel knows that condition offers less protection that the injunction against interfering with his ability to give orders; but there might be discrepancies between Magneto's normal limits and his limits when his usual issues about blaming himself are suspended, so Daniel included it just in case. Daniel just watches him, still and sad.]

Believe me when I say:

I love you. Because you're one of my children, like all the others, and because there's no one else like you anywhere.

I have for ages. I was devastated when you left and I still miss you when you're away.

Shut UP!

[Because screaming doesn't stop Daniel really, but no, no STOP. And he can't put anything between himself and Daniel without backing himself more into a corner, and he's very scared because having his ability to think and feel is worse than being made to do things, and low but close thunder rumbles from lightning too high to hit the ground.]

[eternaliyah]

[He draws his knees up to his chest and wraps his arms around his shins. Quietly,]

Okay.

[The orders are all still in effect, but Daniel can give him time to breathe.]

[magnetic_magpie]

[He keeps prowling, the metal quaking slightly, like windchimes in a minor earthquake, but everything else was still. He's not calm, at all, and fear spiked too high to make it possible, rage warring with the fear to keep him moving, everything tense.]

You're safe right now.

[And yes, "Believe me" still applies.]

[It's a split second look, something that runs deeper than betrayal. Something more at home on a child's face, when they've just been slapped, when they've known no harshness, shock, as if his brain can't quite understand what has just happened.]

That's intolerable.

[Not that he can do anything about it, the sheer rawness of it shutting down first.]

[Daniel flinches, wants to cover his eyes, doesn't let himself. Because he fucking planned that so he could walk things back, but now that they know - it's. It's just a sign that this is exactly what he needs to do. Daniel doesn't know how to do this halfway, knows he'll never get through this if he tries.]

Here, with me, right now, you are. No one and nothing else is going to find you and I -

[his voice breaks, bitter and awful and with an edge of laughter.]

I don't want to hurt you. This is all for your own good.

[He knows exactly how terrible it is. And he did promise to tell the truth too.]

So stop.

[Because safe or not, you can still feel fear, and there are so many ways to define 'hurt'.]

Just stop.

[And it's too close to a plea, too close to begging and he hates this, hates Doom, and if he has his way there won't be a stone left in Latveria.]

[He makes a soft, strangled sound, biting down on his own hand. He should - god, how can he, how can he possibly -]

Stop being - so - afraid.

[A moment of weakness. But he couldn't bear to make it absolute.]

[magnetic_magpie]

[He snarls, and it's reflex, the metal on Daniel's body digging into him, biting into skin and deeper where there is muscle.]

STOP.

[eternaliyah]

[He twitches, because it's not actually a surprise but it still trips so many of his fears. Because his gun that's his baby and the simple reflexively pain at his pants zipper and oh god that chain is around his neck even though he knows Magneto can't actually cut his air off.]

[He hides his face in his hands. A respite for them both.]

[magnetic_magpie]

[Daniel backing off gives him enough space, time, to realize what he's doing and V E R Y gently ease Daniel's zipper and chain away, that's dirty even for him, even for right now, and it's almost a begging, see see, stop please, please stop even if he can't - won't - voice it.]

I'm going to. Take the gun off, if that's alright. Put it in a corner or something. It's got sentimental value, and I'd rather not damage it.
