WHEN ONE PARTICLE OF UNOBTANIUM HAS A NUCLEAR REACTION WITH THE FLUX CAPACITOR... WELL, ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE! IN A HIGH SCHOOL CHEM LAB OR YOUR OWN PRIVATE R&D FLOOR ON A MONUMENT BUILT TO THE SKIES WITH YOUR NAME ON IT, IT'S TIME TO GET DOWN AND DIRTY, NERD STYLE. BRAINY IS THE NEW SEXY, SO TURN THAT BUNSEN BURNER ON. IT'S ABOUT TO GET HOT IN HERE.

BIOLOGY | DISSECTIONS AREN'T FOR THE FAINT OF HEART -- OH HEY SPEAKING OF HEART, POKE THAT ONE WITH THE SHARP THING SOME MORE. ARE YOU CUTTING INTO AMPHIBIANS OR HAS THE CLASS SNAKE GOTTEN LOOSE? OR MAYBE YOU'D JUST LIKE TO USE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY OUT THAT HUMAN ANATOMY LINE YOU'VE HAD AT THE READY SINCE THE FIRST DAY OF THE SEMESTER.

CHEMISTRY | EVERYONE'S GOT IT -- IT MAKES US GO, AND IT CAN MAKE US GO TO OTHERS. HAS YOUR CONCOCTION GONE AWRY? WHO KNOWS WHAT KIND OF EFFECTS A COUPLE OF MISMATCHED ELEMENTS CAN HAVE! ARE YOU A BRILLIANT MIND ON THE NOBLE QUEST FOR A CURE, OR JUST SCREWING AROUND WITH YOUR NOVICE KNOWLEDGE? WILL YOUR ATTEMPTS FIZZLE AND DIE, OR COME BACK TO YOU WITH EXPLOSIVE RESULTS?

PHYSICS | ARGUABLY THE MOST HANDS-ON OF THE SCIENCES, IT'S TIME TO MAKE GRAVITY YOUR BITCH. CONSTRUCT THE CLEVEREST CONTRAPTION TO KEEP AN EGG INTACT FROM A TWO-STOREY DROP, OR, IF YOU'RE FEELING UP TO IT, TRY YOUR HAND AT CREATING A HIGGS-BOSON PARTICLE. (CAN'T BE THAT HARD, CAN IT?) CERTIFIED NONGENIUSES, HAVE NO FEAR, THE TIMEY-WIMEY TECHNOBABBLE IS HERE. REMEMBER, BULLSHIT PHYSICS IS YOUR FRIEND. IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY WIND UP IN ANOTHER DIMENSION WHILE TRYING TO GET TWO MAGNETS OF THE SAME POLARITY TO STICK TOGETHER, WELL, IT HAPPENS.

PSYCHOLOGY | THE SOCIAL EXPERIMENT EXCUSE WILL GET YOU OUT OF ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET, SO HAVE AT. AND ETHICS? WHO NEEDS THOSE. FREUD DIDN'T. ZIMBARDO GAVE NO FUCKS. AND WHAT ABOUT THAT MILGRAM GUY? HE SEEMED LEGIT. SO TAKE A SURVEY, PUT CONDITIONING TO SOME REAL WORLD USE ON AN UNSUSPECTING FRIEND, PLANT MEMORIES WITH HYPNOSIS, OR TAKE A LOOK DEEP INSIDE A ROARSCHACH BLOT AND SEE WHAT YOU CAN FIND OUT ABOUT YOURSELF. JUST BE CAREFUL, THIS COULD GET PERSONAL.

ANYTHING ELSE | THERE ARE MANY AREAS OF STUDY NOT COVERED HERE; DON'T FEEL RESTRICTED TO THESE FOUR OPTIONS. THEY'RE MERELY HERE AS INSPIRATION: GO FORTH AND STRETCH THE BOUNDARIES OF BELIEF HOWEVER YOU CAN. ASTRONOMY, GEOLOGY, ZOOLOGY. I'M ONLY A SCIENTIST IN DISCIPLINES THAT END IN Y.

AND REMEMBER: INERTIA IS A PROPERTY OF MATTER.

[ something in bones tells him to pay less attention to mira's smile and more attention to the volatile chemicals. he ignores that part completely and gives her a grin. ] Steady hands you've got there, Romaine.

[ looks over at angela. ] Tony's doing some engineering thing. It's going to blow up in his face. [ bones sounds a little too eager for that. ]

[ spock is going to pretend to see none of that. he chose to read with angela for a reason, after all. ]

Small ones, Angela.

[ he says it while en route to the counter to get the strips. it's just a quick swap to get the right thing into angela's hand and he sets the beaker aside as though it was never there. ]

Except he's won the last three science fairs with engineering projects.

[does this mean she was right? which ones are the beakers? whatever.]

That's because Tony Stark is like, a genius. He probably just like, uses whatever stuff was like, laying around that his dad didn't use.

Do you remember how he asked Pepper to Homecoming? It's going to be like, legendary. People are going to remember that forever.

[ it's a good thing bones has a grip (or does he?) on the beaker, because she nearly drops it when tony stark enters the conversation. she doesn't have a problem with bruce banner, even if he did spend more time helping tony out. ]

He probably hit on one of the judges. They could have at least docked him points for his attitude.

[ wow, mira's not bitter at all. right, guys? ]

What does that matter anyway? So, he got flashy. Big deal.

[ he does; he's paying pretty close attention.

bones exchanges a look with spock-- it's a dense look, full of unspoken questions that will be discussed later when they're playing video games-- before speaking. his voice is lower, more thoughtful.
]

Tony's got enough flash to blind a small town, but that won't get him anything worth winning, not in the long run.

[ he wants to say a lot more, but the experiment distracts him. ]
averse: (smile)

this is potions class, ok

[ spock's look back, for once, is less impassive and more impatient. the others are critical of tony but all he accredits him for is his academic merits. that alone is enough to garner respect, even if he has the track record akin to jim's. ]

He's intelligent and personable. Teachers seem to like that. His friends are...

[ and there's spock's judgmental falter. tony's particular group of friends weren't winning any awards by his standards. ]

Add the compound in drops every 5 seconds. Though 7 is preferable.

[discussion over? they haven't even talked about his Lexus or his new Ray-Bans. sheesh. Her interests in Tony Stark and Pepper Potts are practically academic.]

Someone should be keeping track of the time! I'll use my phone, and when it's five seconds I'll say go and whoever is dropping can go and then I'll say go again unless we want to do seven seconds?

[directions. right. those are important.]

We could get flashy. It wouldn't hurt.

Science doesn't necessarily need that kind of flash.

[ obviously mira begs to differ. but she'd rather do as spock does and just get on the experiment and leave the conversation for later. or when she's not there, maybe. ]

I'll start adding.

[ it's better to busy herself with the task at hand anyway. ]
