[Just quiet for a while. She doesn't even quite manage to look at him. The disgust is obvious on her face, but it's hard to tell if it's with him, with herself, with the things he done in the past or with the situation. Maybe it's all four at once. When she finally does speak, her voice is quieter and when she looks at him, her eyes are hardened and angry.]

Feel remorse. I want you to feel it, truly and deeply, to the bottom of your heart and soul.

[Will that even work? Does this let you control someone's personality and emotional state this way, or can you only control their outward behavior? They're going to find out now, it seems.]

[The Major just stares at Nina for a moment, quietly. The long, ugly smile he wears doesn't diminish in the least. But he doesn't speak for a moment, a long one. He tilts his head one way, then another, an odd, flitting movement considering the Major.

Maybe it's nothing at all, a simple, absent-minded movement on his part. ]

Or maybe it's the one little sign of there being something wrong he's letting show.]

[Nina studies him intently, not sure what to believe. She doesn't know how far this thing goes, or how far it reaches. Maybe he's right. Maybe you can't command emotions like that.

But then, even if something was wrong, would he let it show? Would he tell her he felt bad?

Of course not.

But then... maybe this is going too far. Playing with his emotional state seems to be crossing a line even more than giving physical orders does, and for a second, Nina feels horribly sickened with herself.

Assuming it even worked. It probably didn't. But there's no way to know for sure. Unless...]

[She realize she doesn't know what she wants the answer to be. Would it change anything if he did feel remorse now? Would it matter? Eventually this whatever it is will stop -- in a day, or a month, and then he'll be himself again, remorseless as ever.

But he's probably remorseless as ever now, anyway.]
