meme | #001 -- hardest words to say ( and i'd do anything to make you stay )

HARDEST THING TO SAY MEME

Sometimes the hardest things to say are also the most important. It doesn't matter how much it scares you to do so, it's finally time to be honest.

- post as your character.
- others go to RNG and roll numbers 1-22 then respond setting up a scenario.
- respond and have fun!

01. I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE Unfortunately, you can't keep lying to your partner/friend/family anymore. You just don't feel the same for them anymore.
02. I WOULD KILL YOU The person who means so much to you has done something completely unforgivable and now it's time to make sure they know where they stand. You would kill them if you ever got the chance.
03. I LOVE YOU, BUT... A bittersweet love confession. You know you love this person more than anything, but you're not sure you can give them what they need.
04. I DON'T TRUST YOU No matter how you feel about this person, you really can't trust them anymore.
05. SACRIFICE You're going to sacrifice yourself, for the person you're talking with or for the good of all humanity. You want them to know the reasons and that there's no stopping you.
06. TROUBLE You're in trouble and you might not make it through. You need to let at least one person know how you feel before it's too late though.
07. CRIME CONFESSION You did something you weren't proud of and now it's time to admit it.
08. DEMONS We've all got our demons and we've all got our own personal nightmares we have to face, but this time? You can't hold it all back.
09. I'M PREGNANT... Now's not the best time for it maybe or maybe you're just nervous how your partner will react, but they need to hear it.
10. BETRAYAL You've betrayed this person and you have to tell them the truth, no more running from it
11. CHEATED You've been unfaithful and it's time to tell your lover.
12. BROKEN That's it. You've had it. You are entirely broken and tired of everything.
13. AFRAID Something has you deathly afraid and you need to talk about it.
14. HELP ME You need someone to help you, bad. You can't do it alone anymore, you've tried.
15. I'M SORRY You said something or did something horrible and now it's time to ask for forgiveness.
16. YOU WERE A MISTAKE Sorry, but whoever you're talking to was the biggest mistake of your life or maybe it was just something you did together.
17. NOT WHO I SAY I AM You're so far from who they think you are, you need to finally tell the truth.
18. LET'S RUN AWAY You want to just get out, leave everything behind and be with this one person for the rest of your life.
19. ASHAMED Either you're ashamed of something they have done or something you did, either way you need to bring it up.
20. CAN'T REMEMBER The person standing in front of you looks so happy to see you, so relieved, but how do you tell them you can't remember a thing about them?
21. HOW COULD YOU You don't understand how they could treat you like they have, do what they have done when you've done nothing but be good to them.
22. YOUR CHOICE Either choose an option from above, mix and match, or make up your own idea.

yep. totally stolen from memebells.
frolic with your subject lines and be free!

[For a moment, Arthur doesn't respond. He's standing at his desk, leaning his hands against it with his back to the door, thinking. No, thinking isn't the right word for it, as thinking implies a process. Rather, he's mulling. He had never raised a hand against Merlin in the past, and frowned upon those who did so against their servants. There is a level of respect necessary, though he would never vocalize it, and especially not around Merlin, and he had broken it by crashing his fist against Merlin's face.

It had been fault, he had warned him. Don't talk about Guinevere. Don't mention her in his presence, and the warning had been stern. It wasn't his fault that Merlin had spoken out of turn, had ignored his warnings, had done so when he had slept least and when his patience and temper were shortest.

It had been all so very complicated.

So he waits a minute before responding, though he isn't obligated to let Merlin in at all.]

Come in, Merlin.

[ There will, Merlin muses, always be elements of his father rooted deep within Arthur, at least until he himself realizes the true potential of what he means to Albion. For all he's grown wiser over the years he's still Arthur, still a hopeless prat, and he still has a lot to learn about the world he lives in and the people who live in it. Merlin can't judge him too harshly despite having found himself on the receiving end of his harsh looks (and now harsh fists) one too many times.

He pushes the door open slowly, carefully, and scans his chambers until he spots Arthur at the far end of the room by his desk. He doesn't look happy. Neither one of them looks particularly happy, actually, and he closes the door behind himself before crossing the room to lean against one of those tall bedposts.
]

I know that I'm just Merlin. [ He pauses, taking a breath. ] I know that I'm not an adviser, or a noble, or anyone even remotely worthy of calling myself your friend, but ...

[ Merlin's open gaze is boring into the back of Arthur's head—he doesn't keep his eyes respectfully low, nor does he nitpick around censored subjects. He just ... talks. ]

Sometimes that's a good thing. Sometimes, people need a nobody to talk to. Even princes. Even kings.

[ He takes a step closer, but remains a good few arm-lengths away. ]

Talk to me, Arthur. If you keep suffering and bottling it up like this then next time I might end up with more than a black eye. [ Perhaps not the best way to attempt to lighten the mood, but hey. He's trying. ]

[Arthur listens to Merlin, if only that, unmoving. His back is still to Merlin, his shoulders tense. It's too much, all that he's been mulling over, thinking hard on and regretting. All that regret, and now Merlin was added to that list.

So he listens, and not long after Merlin's finishes, he responds just the barest glance over his shoulder, more at the floor than at his friend.]

I apologize for striking you, Merlin, You've done more than enough to garner more respect from me than that. Now get out.
serving: (★ it's called a 'neckerchief'.)

[ Merlin considers listening to Arthur, he really does. He considers doing as he's told, letting it go, giving him some space for the night so that they'll never have to talk about it again. It'd certainly be the easier option, and perhaps it would be better for Arthur in the short term, which encourages a moment's hesitation in itself. All Merlin has ever wanted is what's best for his master, after all ... ]

... Um. I— [ He pauses, a hand moving up to rub at the nape of his neck. He fiddles with a few curls of black hair in an attempt to buy himself a few more seconds; ] No.

[ There. That wasn't so hard, was it? ]

No. [ And again! ] I'm ... not going to leave. Not yet. Don't get me wrong, I accept your apology, but ... [ He takes a step forwards, just about as certain as he is uncertain. ] I think you need to be with someone. And I want to be here for you.

[Of course Merlin says no. Merlin, the most insolent servant he's ever met, would never just agree to go quietly and leave him in peace to wallow in his guilt. He can hear Merlin come closer and his jaw tightens, his shoulders tense more.]

I'm fine, I said get out.
serving: (★ good work old bean.)

[personal profile] serving 2011-12-26 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)

[ He looks at him for a long, hard moment, before clapping his hands together and shaking his head. Fine. If he's going to be difficult ... ]

I'm afraid I can't possibly do that. Your suite is in a terrible state, after all, and I wouldn't be able to call myself your manservant with pride if I were to leave it in such a mess. You just carry on doing whatever you're doing.

[ He crosses the room to the gently crackling fireplace and kneels to begin sweeping up the ashes. ]

You won't even know I'm here, Sire.

[personal profile] camelots 2011-12-27 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
How could I possibly not know that you're here when you won't stop yapping? [He sighs from his nose, shaking his head but still not turning to Merlin. When Merlin's in a state like this, steadfast to a fault, there's nothing he can say or do but call the guards, and he just hasn't got it in him right now. So long as Merlin doesn't try to talk to him, it should be fine. He's apologized after all.]

Fine, but not a word. I've got plans to look over.
serving: (★ say whaaaa?)

[personal profile] serving 2011-12-27 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)

[ Merlin mimes placing a padlock over his lips before tossing the invisible key into the fire, and sends a sheepish thumbs-up Arthur's way before going back to his sweeping. In truth there's not all that much that needs to be done to his chambers—Arthur's desk is a mess, but isn't it always—and he chews on his lower lip for a moment before swivelling to reach for the poker. A fire can never be too well tended, can it?

Spoiler: it can. In a wonderful display of clumsiness Merlin manages to knock over the old iron rack that holds all the utensils together for easy access, sending them clattering to the stone floor in an outrageous din. He winces a little, then glances towards Arthur, before mouthing 'SORRY' across the room.

... This really isn't going the way he planned. Trust Arthur to make it difficult for him.
]

[personal profile] camelots 2011-12-28 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sometimes, just sometimes, Arthur really hates Merlin. On many occasions, such as this one, it coincides with him really hating himself as well, which makes the general feeling far worse. He hadn't actually been planning on looking over these plans. Rather, he wanted to sulk and think over his own plans for the next few days, but he can't do that now, can he? So he sits down and starts looking over the plans--that is, until Merlin's interruption.]

Is there nothing that you're competent at, Merlin?
serving: (★ what what?)

[personal profile] serving 2012-01-01 02:01 am (UTC)(link)

Probably not, no.

[ And then he pauses to think for a moment. ]

Actually, I'm pretty good at being incompetent, if that counts? [ His expression is bright and hopeful, perhaps too bright and hopeful considering their topic of discussion. He doesn't waste any more time in righting the fireside tools, though, and he manages not to cause any more noisy disasters while he's at it. ]

Do you ... [ Small talk. Small. Talk. So much for being quiet, right? ] Do you need any help with the plans?
