meme #007 | classic word association ( murder: employment )

Word Association is a common word game involving an exchange of words that are associated together. The game is based on the noun phrase word association, meaning "stimulation of an associative pattern by a word" or "the connection and production of other words in response to a given word, done spontaneously as a game, creative technique, or in a psychiatric evaluation."

[ 'liar' is on the tip of her tongue but she bites it back, though she makes it pretty clear, from her body language to her tone to the exasperated huff that escapes from between her lips, that she doesn't believe him. ]

Stubborn.

[ she'd really like to add 'asshole' to that, but that would be breaking the rules. ]
insulin: no. look. at how handsome. my face is. (look at me.)

Incomplete.

[ in case he has any ideas. ]
insulin: because you're just like this town: you're obnoxious, you're cramping my style, and you smell like french fry oil. (i want to beat the crap out of you.)

Sentence!

[ throws up his hands. this game is not fun anymore. he doesn't know how to be reflective in normal conversation. ]

[ her face turns stonily angry. ]

Stop.
insulin: on his own. last year we caught him trying to remove his own tonsils. (edward won't go to any kind of doctor)

[ you are such a jerk why does she put up with you ]

Leave.

[ the word comes out before she really thinks about what she's saying, and she's not even sure if she means it. but maybe after this, he'll take her seriously. ]
insulin: probably the same as townsfolk life except less tragic because i get to leave. (pic#)

fuck it, random icon's my bff for today.

[ crosses his arms. as pissed as he is, and that's plenty, he could by much angrier and his answer would still be the same, which is why it sounds like a reluctant, hard capitulation, but he doesn't posture by offering up anything else. ]

Never.
jagerin: (pic#)

it's legit tbh.

[ her eyes stay hard on his face, but her mouth falters in spite of her determination to keep it tight. she wants to be angrier than she actually is; in truth she's afraid but doesn't want to face those emotions. anger is easier, it always has been. it's the one thing they've held onto over the years, what they can rely on as much as they can each other. ]

Hate?

[ another word slipping from her tongue before she can stop it. the minute it's out, she wants to take it back. if he does, she doesn't want to know. ]
insulin: probably the same as townsfolk life except less tragic because i get to leave. (pic#)

and so unapplicable but whatevs.

[personal profile] insulin 2013-03-05 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ he doesn't react outright. it's too inflammatory a word for him to do so. before, it would have been automatic: witches. the concept doubled as a convenient receptacle for his unresolved feelings of betrayal and abandonment. but it's of no use anymore. his narrow worldview has been forcibly expanded. there are good witches, and there are bad humans, and they are few and many, respectively. it was easier when he could figure out his prejudices just be checking a woman's gums. ]

Knowing. Not knowing -- [ oops he fucked up. hansel presses the bad of his thumb into the indent of his eye, annoyed with himself. ] I don't know.

if it makes you feel better i'll start using modern icons too.

[ the longer he's silent, the more cracks form in her resolve. when he finally speaks she's more relieved than anything else, glad that she's not the only one to feel conflicted about this. she hasn't let on that discovering what she is, who their mother was, that muriel's wand had sparked to life in her hand and that she still hasn't destroyed it, has terrified her. ]

Me neither.

[ her voice is softer now, not quite sad but resigned of the anger that was previously so adamant. ]
