[she rolls her eyes a little at that. Rose puts as much stock in Dave's compliments as she does John's, but...]

Will it get you off my back for the rest of the night if I say yes?

[ His face lights up like a tree on Christmas day, and he bows. ]

Fine. But you try and weasel anything else out of me and I'm drowning you in the punch bowl.

[ He chuckles and nods, pulling Rose closer to the dance floor. ]

I wouldn't dream of it.

Right, of course not. [she follows, casting a wary glance at the other people around her. god this was such a stupid idea, why did she even come? she hates shit like this.]

[ He sets his free hand just above Rose's waist; he doesn't care much for the people around them, and it's clear from the way he seems to only be concentrating on his sister. ~~What a creep.~~ ]

Have you ever danced the foxtrot?

[Rose's experience with dancing has been limited to the lindy step and Charleston moves the old ladies in her apartment complex used to show her. she shakes her head, but for once doesn't seem too concerned. she knows she's a fast learner.]

No, but I bet I can keep up anyway.

[ The statement brings a smile to his face, and he nods. ]

It's rather easy - I'm sure someone like you will learn with just a little time.

[ With that, he nods toward his shoulder. ] Hand here -- I'll guide you.

[she does as instructed, albeit a little hesitantly. Rose still isn't the greatest with physical contact, and this is no exception. she masks it with a smirk and some bluster.]

We'll see how long that lasts.

All right then.

Back, [ a step forward, ] back, [ another step forward, ] left, [ a slide to the left before his feet touch each other, ] back. [ a final step forward. ]

Have you gotten it so far?

[her eyes are on Dave's feet, watching the movements and matching them to the tempo of the song playing. maybe it was because she was a Time player, maybe it was natural, but Rose had never had any difficulty keeping the beat. now doesn't seem to be any exception]

Yeah, I've got it. Is that it, or are you going to go nuts on me now?

[ He simply grins, and turns his body to step forward twice. ]

It's a little longer than this, but not by much.

[ His feet meet together, before moving forward again, back, and then pivot to the side before meeting together again. ]

Can you do that much?

[there's a small pause before she executes the most, just long enough to make sure she's got it. she looks up at Dave, smirking a little]

I can do a lot more than that.

[ His grin turns into a sly smirk, and he returns to the beginning position. ]

Then perhaps we should show these ladies and gentlemen how to really dance.

[she can't help but grin]

Only if you can keep up, Harley.

I'll do more than that.

[ And he starts off, as the man starts off in the fox trot -- this time, though, instead of the pace he used as instruction and for a model, he's much faster, even for the normal dance's pace. ]

[and Rose tears off after him, eager to meet the challenge that the new dance and blistering pace presents her. she stumbles every now and then, new to the foxtrot as she is, but keeps going and really does quite admirably. she's doesn't say anything just yet, as she's too focused on the dance.]

[ He keeps her steady, so that when she stumbles she doesn't fall; he's aware of her feet, and does well to avoid them. Meanwhile, the couple storms past other couples, who in turn make way for them.

The current speed isn't quite satisfying yet, so when Rose seems to have gotten the hang of the pace, he moves faster -- just about as fast as he can go without using his space powers. ]

[she's more confident now, stumbling less and swirling across the dance floor in a mess of red fabric. the faster they go the more Rose enjoys herself (she's always had a weakness for speed) and at some point a genuine smile slips across her face for a moment.

how strange that at a moment when all eyes were probably on her she doesn't seem to notice at all.]

[ The smile that he helped bring about is a great reward to him, and in his own excitement, he doesn't hear the song end and another, more fast-paced song begin, although it's still slow in comparison to the dancing.

It is then that Dave takes the initiative to move differently from the pattern, creating a more impromptu step for the dance. It's similar enough that Rose should be able to catch on quickly, but it's enough of a difference that it can be called its own step. ]

[she catches on, although don't think she didn't see that little blip as he forgot the song changed. when he deviates from what they've been doing, however, she decides that this is the all clear sign to try some new stuff.

you know, new stuff like leading.]

[ The problem with Rose leading is that Rose is going to go faster than Dave can probably go without using his powers -- but that was never really a problem in the first place. He lets her lead, but don't think that it's because he's conceding because he's not; every so often, even while she's leading, he'll pull her away to new little "blips" of his own. ]

[she doesn't particularly mind that, even if her steps are an attempt to curb those little anomalies. the dance is a competition now, a game of who can go faster and lead longer. Rose loves that kind of thing.]
