[ Nageki knows there's a dance going on, but he honestly couldn't care less about it. What is being social, anyway? All he needs are books!! But... it does get a little lonely sometimes, especially at night. Books can listen and tell stories, but it's not quite the same as companionship. So Ryouta's presence is certainly welcome.

The question, though, throws him off a little. He tilts his head slightly in confusion. ] You want to dance with me? [ He sets the book down on the table, still open. ] ... Why? [ And wait, why is he here in the first place? ] There are other birdies you could dance with.

[biding]

[Ah, he didn't get a no. That makes Ryouta a little more confident, at least enough that his smile doesn't falter at the question.]

I know there are. [He shakes his head.] But I'd like to dance with you. [Pause.] Since we're friends. [And he wants to bring some of the fun of the dance up here, since Nageki isn't going to go down there...]

You're rather odd, mister Kawara. [ But he slowly rises from his chair, giving in. He'll be back soon, book...! ] I won't be a good partner. I've never danced before.

[biding]

[Ryouta will try not to keep you from your precious book for too long, Nageki. He brightens and just chuckles at being called odd.] That's okay. Never to late to learn, right?

[notbullied]

... I guess. [ What if he has two left feet, Ryouta??

Nageki is a little nervous but he goes ahead and walks on over to where the other is standing. What is he supposed to do? ] Go slow.

[biding]

[Ryouta waits for him to get closer and then reaches out for one of Nageki's hands. The music from the gym has quieted somewhat, and a new song has started up.] No problem.

Thank you. [ He takes Ryouta's hand, and suddenly there was an explosion of roses and shoujo sparkles and Nageki became very kawaii blushing uke doki doki doki is momentarily surprised how warm and... pleasant, he supposes, the innocent contact is. His nerves and tension are obvious in the way that his grip is tighter than necessary, though surely not tight enough to really hurt. ]

[Ryouta notices the tight grip on his hand and smiles what he hopes is a reassuring smile.] So first, we kinda have to stand a little closer, like this... [He keeps a hold of that hand, edging in. With his other hand, he goes about carefully urging Nageki to rest his arm along Ryouta's and put his hand on his shoulder.

He's trying not to treat it like he would if he danced with a girl and end up making Nageki more uncomfortable. So he's sure to ask after this is done,] Okay?

[ Nageki nods quietly, keeping himself from gripping his shoulder as well. He's not completely comfortable with this yet, but at least he's not uncomfortable. He's willing to go along with this, because Ryouta wants to and Ryouta is his friend. ]

Okay. [ He takes a quiet breath, paying attention to the song. The type of song affects the dance. He remembers reading it in some novels with dances. ]

[The music from below, faint, is that kind of languid dance tune that would prompt people to move close together and just sway.] Don't have to move too much, [he says with a smile, even as he sways a little, starts to shift his feet.]

[notbullied]

O-okay. [ But oh god, rhythmic movement!! He looks down at his feet (or tries to, it's a little hard to see when they're close), trying to mimic Ryouta's movements without stepping on him. It's an awkward and stiff swaying motion for him. ]

[biding]

[Don't worry, Nageki! Ryouta's moving slowly, wanting to let Nageki get used to the motion of dancing. He smiles at his friend, encouragingly.]

[notbullied]

[ Ryouta, you are the best bro (that's not Kazuaki) Nageki could ever ask for. Eventually he gets used to the motion and he looks back up, smiling ever-so-slightly. He's getting it! He's actually getting it!! ]

[Ryouta seems to brighten as he sees that slight smile, smiling broadly right back. Good, good, he wants for his friend to enjoy himself.]

[ He is enjoying himself! It's... a little strange to him, to be getting happiness from something as simple as this, but it's nice. Nageki relaxes, that content smile not leaving his face. ]

[Hooray-- Mission accomplished, then! Something in Ryouta warms considerably and, before he knows it, he finds himself grinning all the wider. The music is still humming away sonorously in the background and he shuts his eyes, mmmaybeeee closer to Nageki than before. It's nice, okay? Okay.]

[ Seeing Ryouta so happy makes Nageki strangely... joyful. While normally the close proximity might make him nervous, this time he's leaning a little closer as he just allows himself to enjoy the moment. ]

[Ryouta's eyes seem to shine when Nageki leans in closer and he hums quietly along with the music from downstairs. It's silly, he tells himself. Being happier and happier when he sees Nageki is but, then, he doesn't get to see the other looking this happy that often. And if he can help in it, well. All the better.]

[ Moments when Nageki can smile this brightly are few and far in between. He almost laughs when he hears that humming fairly close to his ear. ]

... Thank you, mister Kawara. [ For wanting to spend time with him at all when he's not the most social or interesting birdie ever. ]

[He smiles at the thanks. Oh, see, that warms him right up, makes him feel all the gladder that he decided to come up here.]

Nothing to thank me for. [But,] Thank you for dancing with me.

[ He shakes his head a little. No, there's plenty he can thank him for. ] It was more fun than I thought it would be.
