And it was indeed an admirably tight shirt providing an admirable view. But, well, it wasn't even a proper date. Just a campus mixer she'd forcibly dragged herself too after a great deal of internal debate. At least at this close proximity, admiring stares were something Tara considered to be a third date affair.

"I-I don't know. What?"

Tara's not bad at math, but math jokes are beyond even her rather eclectic areas of humor.

"An extroverted mathematician stares at someone else's feet." Barbara smiled, sharing enough classes with the mathematicians to be able to make that joke even if she was studying library science. And her tone was gentle, teasing rather than cruel.

And she's obvious enough about only teasing that the joke earns a smile and a gaze darted up at her face from her nervous dance partner.

Even so, a faint but noticeable blush creeps up Tara's cheeks. Even so, she attempts gamely to recover. "W-Well, that's, that's good," she stammers. "Very polite of you. A-And, um, I'm not either."

She does have a cross on under her blouse in case Barbara is lying, of course.

"Pity." Barbara smirked slightly, still teasing. "Do your friends often try to make you blush." She'd be slightly disappointed in them if they didn't. Tara was cute when she blushed.

"N-No." Her former girlfriend, however...well, Willow often hadn't had to try. She was just, well...so Willow about it that Tara often couldn't help herself.

A touch of sadness comes into her expression at the thought of Willow, and so Tara tries to change the subject. "W-Why? I mean...it's not r-really something friends do, is it? I mean, I guess your friends might, a-and that's okay. Just...not mine."

"Because you look cute when you blush." Barbara smiled. "Before we fell out, Katarina used to do it to me a lot." And now it was impossible to make Barbara blush - her thoughts on her ex were very different from Tara's.

"Oh." And now Tara looks torn between the desire to smile because, hey, a cute girl just called her cute, and that never stops being nice, and sympathy over the fact that they're apparently in much the same boat.

In the end, she does smile faintly, pleased at the compliment. They've been few on the ground, lately. "...I guess i-it's not so bad. Blushing."
