"And that makes me more happy than I can say," she murmured softly, letting him steal one last kiss before he slipped into his room for the night. She stood there for a moment, staring at the door, feeling something in her stomach twist. She wanted to open that door and go in there and lay down with him, to hold him and fall asleep. But he needed the rest and well... She headed down the hall, making a bit of noise so her father could hear that she was going into her room and not staying somewhere else. She heard her father say goodnight and she wished him the same before closing the door to her bedroom. She slipped out of her own clothing. It was too hot to sleep in her usual pajamas.
But as she laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling, she felt restless, that same stomach twisting feeling settling over her, her mind buzzing with thoughts. After about an hour, she rolled onto her side, staring out the window, her eyes on the house that Leckie once lived in, memories coming back to her. Memories of her waving at him through their windows, memories of crying herself to sleep wishing he was in that very window instead across the world. And now he was just down the hall, having memories of his own once more.
She made a decision then and there as she slipped out of her bed, grabbing her robe to slip on, butterflies fluttering in her stomach as she tied it at her waist and pulled her hair down to tumble in waves at her shoulders. It was a little tricky but she managed to sneak out of her room without a peep, tip toe down the hallway and knock so quietly on his door, opening it without permission and slipping inside.
:D
