"Then I'm not going anywhere, ever again," he promised her - and he wouldn't, he didn't care if another war broke out, he wouldn't volunteer, he'd stay right here, do something else to help. But he hoped to God that this war - that any more wars, too - was over, would never return, that they could be done with it forever. Because he knew now the life he'd wanted to come back to, and he planned to make it his, to make it hers, too - to give her everything she wanted. "And anything else you need... I want to give that to you, too. I have for a very long time." Because as he'd gotten to know her better, as they'd tried being together even when he couldn't remember... he'd found that all he ever wanted was to make her smile, to make her happy, keep her safe. That was just never going to change, and that was perfectly all right.
