He grinned quite happily, especially as she looked so very impressed. Of course, her words made him laugh a little - no, he wasn't exactly a master chef, so he didn't mind the surprise in her voice. It was nice, it told him she was well and truly surprised - and pleased. "I sure did. I even roasted the chicken without burning down the house," he teased, taking a few slices of bread and setting them on her plate so she could make herself a sandwich. Though when she moved to help serve things up, he indicated the potato salad, letting her put some on each of their plates while he did the same with the salad. "It's probably good this is a picnic, though, I couldn't do anything much fancier than this."

The truth was, he had a bottle of champagne for later, but he figured they could drink the cokes she'd brought with their dinner and have that later, with the cookies. So he reached over and grabbed the two bottles, twisting the metal caps off before offering one to her.
