Well, it certainly wasn't as if he didn't think they were a good idea - he had a feeling that if he'd had his memories back he might have asked her by now, but even if he'd like to, it would take a lot more work on his end, getting better, before he could even think about it. But somehow, it was always there, in the back of his mind - here was this girl who had done so much for him... how could he possibly think of walking away from her, ever?

And walking away was definitely the farthest thing from his mind as Summer assured her father they wouldn't be out too late. He confirmed that he planned to bring her straight home after the display was over, and was admittedly relieved when her father smiled even as she slid her hand through his arm. He promised they would be safe, moving to pull open the door so they could head down the steps. He figured they'd make for the central park, where they might not be alone but there were plenty of little, tucked-away spots they could get a bit of privacy and still see the fireworks.
