everybody pants now!
He's sassy gay friend anyway.
[She may be the slightest bit jealous, because she's far more used to the ladies of court staring at her. Not out of any romantic interest of course, obviously not, but she's quite used to be admired, even if she's sure they talk about her unladylike she is behind her back.
Well, it's hardly her fault, now is it?]
My father wants me to find a suitable husband so that a Pendragon is always ruling Camelot but I don't have to be the one on the throne. It's got nothing to do with my own happiness, I can assure you. Not that I blame him.
[Artura can't help but smile ever so slightly though at the dress, at Guinevere.]
You would look lovely in that.
he's already got the scarf.
[ Gwen just gives Artura a momentary look, though she tries to ease it with her comment on the knights. It's true that the women look up to and respect Artura, but many of the men of court and the knights feel the same. There's no doubt in her mind that every one of them wouldn't mind courting the princess, and not just because of her being the future queen. ]
You cannot think so ill of Uther. Six men have left without your hand. Could he let them leave so easily if he didn't want you to find a good match?
[ Her dislike for the king and his policies aside, Gwen could never imagine any father not wanting his child to be happy.
The thought of her wearing such a fine dress makes her very aware of how inappropriate her admiration of it must seem. She moves the dress away and drapes it over her forearm, pretending not to notice Artura's smile. ]
Not fit for fetching wine and clearing plates at a feast— Not that you shouldn't wear it...or that I wouldn't want to.
clearly, it was meant to be.
Gwen, Put it on.
Re: clearly, it was meant to be.
Fine, but you're wearing the red silk one to dinner.
[ She steps behind the dressing screen merely (just in case Merlin decides to barge in, as he often does) and begins unlacing her bodice and apron. ]
Sometimes being so close helps though, doesn't it? Many of the new recruits have been nice... like Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad.
[ Despite Lancelot's departure she does recall her and Artura being quite taken with him, though perhaps for different reasons... ]

Lancelot's gone and Galahad's like a child, so neither of them are really an option.

[ Of course Artura, such a silly thought, though she can't quite manage the fastenings in the back of the dress. She emerges from behind the screen, back bare though the rest of the dress fitting her like a dream. She spins in it, getting a good look at herself in the mirror before turning back towards the bathing princess. ]
Oh, you shouldn't have let me try this. [ She sighs her complaint dreamily before turning back to the mirror. ] Galahad isn't so terrible, is he? And who knows, Lancelot may return someday should you wish it.

[The thought of Morgana's malicious humor is lost though, at the sight of Gwen. Artura can't help but smile, because Gwen looks beautiful. Gwen always looks beautiful to her, to be fair, but the dress does fit her perfectly.]
Maybe...and you're keeping that dress, I insist.

[ The look on Artura's face is enough to make her smile even more (and perhaps feel all the more beautiful), but at her insistence she lowers her gaze and lets her smile fade. ]
You're kind, but I could not. Where would a maid wear such?
[ She Grabs a linen from near the bath basin and unfolding it for Artura to use to dry off, hoping this will shift the subject. ]
no subject
[Artura does take the linen's unfolding as a cue though, suddenly aware of how lukewarm the water has become. She stands in the water and steps out, reaching for the linen from Gwen and wrapping it around herself. She squeezes out her hair afterwards, unconscious of the puddle that's forming around her feet. She's not the one who has to clean it up, after all.]
You're right about the red dress, though. Even if I'm not going to accept Sir Tristan's courtship, I still have an image to maintain.
